How E-Therapy Began

E-Therapy's Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Diana Parafiniuk, is an experienced speech therapist and had been commuting long distances to serve students across Arizona. She began to ruminate during her hours of drive time on how she could reach more students and be more effective with the therapy she was providing. She asked herself, how could she be more efficient? How could she be in front of those who needed her, instead of driving? Diana understood that traditional onsite therapy wasn't enough. There had to be other ways to provide speech therapy to kids wherever they were located.

Diana set about finding a solution. In 2009 it was a challenge to explain the benefits to educators and therapists that telepractice was a successful delivery model due to the technology available at the time. Thanks to ASHA and its support, Diana became a pioneer in the teletherapy space and charted a path that brought teletherapy into the related services mainstream of education. Through her innovation, research, and investigation, she was able to leverage existing technologies to provide teletherapy services remotely. At that time, it was a new and innovative service delivery model and E-Therapy was born!

For 12+ years, Diana has been building upon E-Therapy's teletherapy expertise. Today she is recognized as an online therapy expert sharing her in-depth knowledge on the topic of telepractice and special education by speaking to schools and organizations across the USA. Through her hard work and commitment to special education, E-Therapy has grown over the years. E-Therapy now reaches more students across the country from those who didn't have access to services and therapy, like students in remote areas, such as the Navajo Reservation to the suburbs and large cities. Our therapists are able to serve students who may otherwise not be served and support a school’s ability to best serve their special education students’ needs; enhancing their opportunities for an overall higher quality of life.

Had Diana not been driving hundreds of miles every week, perhaps none of this would have happened.

"I am grateful to share with you the story that brought E-Therapy into being, and that changed my life, thousands of E-Therapists' lives, and the tens of thousands of countless students in schools across the United States." - Diana Parafiniuk
